Foundation Year
The first year of study in the Graphic Design program is arranged to
provide an equal understanding of the practice/theories in art and design.
You make ask yourself the following question:
"What is important about these particular courses and how are they relevant to my career?"
In response, imagine these courses as a means for providing the framework for your career, your life involvement with creating visual works of art. The Graphic Design program at DCCC believes that the young student/artist, whether pursuing graphic design or another applied art, should have the same training as first year design students at four year institutions.
The coursework within the Graphic Design program will aim to develop your awareness of "seeing" -by coordinating the eye, hand, and mind. Through first year courses in drawing, painting, color theory, two and three-dimensional design, you will begin to develop and understand, how competent, well designed compositions are created. Projects in these courses are designed to help you realize the interconnectedness of the technical and visual aspects between stucture, color, composition, type & other important elements of design. Upon completion of these preliminary courses, a student should arrive at a destination that will allow every kind of talent an equal chance to develop and flourish.
